NAGA CITY, August 1, 2026 โ Four student-spellers from Sta. Cruz National High School (SCNHS) showcased their spelling excellence at the Jerald Jude Spelling Bee PH 2026 held on Saturday, August 1, at the University of Nueva Caceres (UNC) Social Hall, where 58 student-spellers from across the division competed.
The SCNHS delegates delivered remarkable performances. John Roberth Mojeco (Grade 
, coached by Annie Joy T. Barbosa, advanced to the Second Round. Kevin Denz Cid (Grade 7), under the guidance of Darice Ann Sardalla, and Isha Plantado (Grade 9), coached by Leonora Erika O. Rivera, both qualified for the Quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Harley Jake Ubalde (Grade 10), coached by Reymar E. Borlagdatan, advanced to the Semifinals and earned an opportunity to compete in a rematch for the remaining spot in the Top 10 Finalists, capping off an impressive performance in the competition.
The Jerald Jude Spelling Bee PH, as supported by the official Scripps National Spelling Bee in the United States, was founded by Jerald Jude Chavez Campana, who placed 23rd in the 2023 Scripps National Spelling Bee. The organization seeks to promote literacy, academic excellence, and self-confidence by providing Filipino students with opportunities to enhance their vocabulary, communication skills, and passion for learning through academic competition. Beginning in Naga City, the program envisions expanding into a nationwide spelling bee that will eventually send a Philippine national champion to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. This year marks the competition’s inaugural staging in the Philippines, with the August 1 event in Naga City serving as its first edition.
The commendable performance of the SCNHS delegates in this historic inaugural competition underscores the school’s commitment to cultivating academic excellence and empowering learners to confidently participate in language and literacy competitions at higher levels.
